World Junior Champs - Day Three Kiwi Results

Jacko Gill stunned the field and himself in heaving the shot out to 20.76 to win the Men's Shot Put by 56cm and establish a new World Age Records for 15 and 16 year olds. Jacko is 15 years old and improved his personal best by almost a metre to win the first ever male Gold Medal at the World Junior Champs for New Zealand. 

Thomas Walsh (17.92) finished in 17th place in the qualifying round and did not advance to the Finals.

Michael Cochrane (52.25) qualified for the second round of the 400m Hurdles

Men's 400m Hurdles Heats Results

Angie Smith (2:05.51) and Anna Roche (2:07.01) both failed to advance to the Final of the Women's 800m. Smit was unfortunately in the slowest heat where she finished 5th and Roche ran a personal best to finish seventh in the fastest heat.

Alex Jordan (47.65) finished 6th in his Semi-Final of the Men's 400m which saw him finish 17th on the final standings.

World Junior Champs - Day Two Kiwi Results

Aaron Pulford exceeded all expectations with a brilliant performance in the 10,000m. Pulford placed 5th with a Personal Best by 48 seconds and a National Junior Record of 29:14.

Mens 10,000m Final Results


Caroline Mellsop finished 8th in Heat 1 of the W3000m Steeplechase and 16th overall with a time that was narrowly (5 secs) outside her personal best (10:35) set earlier this year.

Womens 3000m Steeplechase Final Results

In the W800m Heats Angie Smit finished first in Heat 1 in 2:07 with Anna Roche finishing 4th in Heat 4, also in 2:07. Both qualify (Q= first 4 of each heat, plus the next 4 fastest times) for the Semi-Finals to be held on Day Three.

Womens 800m Heats Results
Unfortunately Kristie Ballie finished well off her personal best of 54.57 in finishing last in Heat 2 in a time of 59.98.  

Womens 400m Heats Results

In the Women's Discus Throw Sositina Kaeai qualified for the Finals with a throw of 49.37m. This was short of the Auto qualifying distance (53m) but within the Top 12 performances of the round (qualification standard 53.00m or at least best 12 qualified). Leesa Lealaisalanoa finished 15th with a throw of 48.55m which did not qualify her for the final round.

Alex Jordan (47.50) qualified as 17th fastest for the 2nd round of the 400m while Scott Burch (48.63) failed to make it out of his heat, finishing in 32nd on performance in the qualifying round.

NZL Jnrs shine at Victoria Track Classic - July 7th

Hannah Newbould was the star of the Kiwi performances at the Victoria Track Classic in Vancouver as she set a new W19 National Record in the 1500m of 4:14.54.

Some other Kiwi performances at this meet included Angie Smit (2:03.87, 800m) who narrowly missed the National Junior 800m record set in 1974, Rebekah Greene (4:23, 1500m), Joseph Millar (10.74, 100m prelims) and Glen Ballam (49.5, 400m).
