This morning just before 9 on radiosport... Telfer proclaims that Lydiard always said "no pain no gain"... Sent in my daily text but he was adamant, "train dont strain" was only for joggers he reckons!!

Sounds more like Jesse "The Body" Ventura in the Running Man. Telf thinks he know everything about Athletics but he knows shit.

knowing that Telfer passes himself off as an expert on running / athletics and golf, makes me immediately doubt everything he says in regards to golf.

The worrying thing is that Telfer is better than some of the other ignoramuses that could be foisted upon us. Telfer no doubt believes he's an expert, and doesn't bother to refresh his memory.
It's a shame Peter Williams' punishment for drink driving is doing breakfast TV because he was a decent sports presenter and commenter. Not an expert in athletics by any means, but he seemed to prepare when he was doing commentary. |

Peter Williams is a legend. He is to sports broadcasting as Jim Hickey is to the weather as Gus Taylor is to youtube reviews of assorted paraphenalia.

Ventura was way better (still not saying much though) in Predator.

Arthur Lydiard video on YouTube
At 1:23 on the above video link they have used the "Train, don't Strain" quote and attributed it to Lydiard. Perhaps you could send that link to Telfer? |
