For all those passionate off roaders out there I bring news of a brand spanking new trail running event being launched on the legendary 42 Traverse on the North Island's Central Plateau, Saturday 1 May 2010. And yep - before I hear you say isn't that the same day as the Rotorua Marathon. You are right! Entries are set to open this coming week and you can check out the event website at www.t42.co.nz. These events are two of the four happening on the same day with a 47km mountain bike (first out of the blocks) and 6.5km off road fun run/walk adding to the festival mix. The four events are limited to 1000 across the board so be in quick when entries open shortly.

There will be $5,000 in prize money across the range of T42 events. Watch this space! Travel and accommodation assistance will be given to leading contenders for marathon by application. After event party at The Park Travellers' Lodge, National Park Village with Live Band and DJ. Make a weekend of it!

If the course is half as fun as The Goat then I'd love to do it. Will have to wait and see how the body handles the next few races before I throw my hat in the ring though - dc

Eight weeks to go people! Be a part of this inaugural trail running event on the Central Plateau on Saturday 1 May. There is a trail marathon run (for the main event), a 24km adventure run/walk and a 6.5km fun run and walk.

The event offers a 45km MTB, a 42km Trail Marathon Run, and a 24km Adventure Run/Walk. The combo of undisputed top shelf scenery, lush native bush, hilly sometimes-technical trails and a few refreshing river crossings promises a day out that’ll be tough to forget.
